I have been checking the “discount,” Shopify offers on shipping and have found that their “discounted,” prices are still very high. As an example I recently shipped a 5 pound package from NJ to TX. The standard post office priority mail price was $27.75. Shopify offered “savings,” of $3.74 so it was $24.01 to ship.
I also use Pitney Bowes and Stamps.com for items I ship not sold through Shopify and the price for the exact same item was $12.67, or less than half. I end up shipping almost all my items sold on Shopify through Pitney Bowes. Just like with the payments and chargebacks, it seems like making money on shipping is also a key part of Shopify’s business model.
Has anyone else experienced this?
