Are there any free apps for customized options?

Hi friends, my website sells Window Retractable Fly Screen, this is my product page: https://www.retractable-fly-screens.com.au/products/pull-across-window-retractable-fly-screens, when adding items to the cart, the height and width need to be customized according to the customer’s requirements. The app I’m currently using is very expensive. Are there any free alternatives?

Hey @Susan6 no this not any kind of app this is the custom made section

Hi @Susan6

There is no free app for this type of functionality.

If you can compromise a bit and do some manual calculation, then there are free apps that let users enter Height & Width values before adding the product to the cart on the product page, and you will get those values in the order details. See screenshots

on the product page:

on checkout page:

Thanks

This kind of app can’t be free.
Looks like the app is creating new variant for each height+width entry.

But their pricing in app store it kinda misleading, I see that they actually require $100+ plan to enable calculator…

Pretty sure there are cheaper alternatives. Say, similarly called app – Options Price Calculator - Unlimited product options with formula-based dynamic pricing | Shopify App Store

Solutions without an app would all be cumbersome.

Say, an option is to create a bunch of pre-defined sizes yourself, like 600x600, 450*900 … etc with different prices and then ask customer to select the closest predefined size and enter their exact measurements in line item property inputs (these can be done easily with custom liquid section/blocks).

Or, use some JS code to select closest predefined size based on the measurements given.

This way the price will change (yes, not exactly, but can be a good approximate still) and you will see exact measurements required.

We have a free app for custom options if you would like to try:

That’s a great-looking site those retractable screens are a very specific product, so I totally get why you need those custom dimensions. The app tax can definitely eat into your margins when you’re just trying to collect basic measurements.

If you’re looking to cut costs, you might want to check out Misk Variant & Product Options. They have a really solid free plan that covers the essentials like Number Boxes for width/height and Text Inputs.

One thing I noticed while looking at your product page is that since you’re selling a high-utility item, speed is key. A lot of the older, pricier apps use legacy code that makes the custom fields flicker or pop in a second late.

This app is a Native App Embed, so the boxes load instantly alongside your Add to Cart button. It makes the whole experience feel a lot more built-in and professional for your customers.

Skip the expensive apps. You can do this for free by using AI (like Cursor or Claude) to modify your theme code.

Just add Line Item Properties (custom input fields) for height and width directly into your product template. This captures the customer’s dimensions and attaches them to the order at no cost. Plus, your site will load faster without the extra app script.

Yes, but the question is how to get price to change according to measurements without an app?

Hi @Susan6 :raising_hands:

For products that require customers to enter custom measurements like Height and Width with pricing calculated based on size, Easify Product Options can handle this setup quite smoothly.

I’ve created a similar demo to help you better visualize how it works:

  • This is the result:

  • This is the app setting:

Inside the app, you can create a Dimension option that lets customers input their height and width values directly on the product page. This option is especially useful for made-to-measure products such as fly screens, curtains, blinds, acrylic panels, fabrics, doors, and other custom-sized items.

You’re also able to define minimum and maximum values for each dimension. For example, you can limit Height to 300–8000mm and Width to 300–5500mm to prevent invalid measurements from being submitted.

The app supports multiple measurement units as well, including mm, cm, m, and more, so it’s easy to adapt based on your store’s requirements.

For dynamic pricing, you can open the option’s Advanced settings and configure the calculation inside the Total Price section. This allows you to create formulas based on Height × Width and automatically adjust the final price according to the customer’s measurements — all without needing custom coding.

Overall, the setup process is very beginner-friendly and works especially well for stores selling made-to-order or custom-dimension products.:pink_heart:

Hi @Susan6,

I hope you are doing well! If you are open to trying a third-party app to add custom height and width, you can try the InkyBay Product Personalizer App.

With Inkybay’s product option feature, you can create a custom free size option where customers can set their preferred height and width. You can set dynamic pricing based on the size unit. You can set a minimum or maximum height-width restrcition. You can set the size unit as inches/feet/cm. Also, if you want, you can set a preset size option. Based on the height and width selection, the price will change dynamically on the product page. All customer inputs are automatically included in the order file generated by Inkybay.

Inkybay also lets you create different product options like swatch image, custom free size option, and display them as drop-down options, radio buttons, swatches, checkboxes, etc. You can even set dynamic pricing for options.

The best part is that no coding is required, and a simple setup. It offers a free 21-day trial so you can explore it and see how it works for your product.

You can definitely switch to a much more affordable option without losing your layout. Install the Misk Variant & Product Options for free from the Shopify App Store.

Add custom height and width input fields to your product page, allowing customers to enter measurements according to their exact requirements.

I found an app with the same features you need; you can check whether it meets your requirements.
