Are too many redirects damaging for SEO?

hi! i have almost 80 urls that are causing keyword cannibalization and disturbing by site structure so, I am thinking to redirect them all one by one to their relevant categories. I can’t canonicalize them as that would still create confusion for google. My site is not ranking and I think this is the reason. This is the site: theplanetjunior.com

The question is am I doing the right thing by redirecting all those 80 URLs?

Does having too many redirects bad/good for SEO?

please guide! i am stuck

Hi @planetjuniorseo ,

Rankings are not usually affected by the NUMBER of redirects a store has. However, it can be important to have a plan in place when redirecting many pages because it can cause other side effects like redirecting a previously well-ranked page or redirect loops. If you move from one website to another or removed well-ranked pages, that is likely the cause for the dip in traffic. But that is all I can really say without an in-depth site audit.

Hope this helps.

Repeating @Bluesoft_Design insight, when major companies move domains 80 redirects is a microscopic number in terms of scale ; but it can matter if a site literally only has 80 pages and they are all set up badly.

Raw count is not an indicator there are just too many other factors.

So the question is waaay too broad for any type of accurate approach, so all your left with is fuzzier SEO answers.

Skill delegation -

This is a beginners fallacy from lack of self awareness: if your so unsure of how redirects impact SEO that you have to ask you should not be making assumed conclusions about how SEO works; such as why a site is not ranking.

It is a good way to keep having bad SEO. Skip the mistakes from the learning curve consult a SEO specialist.
