Auto add free product to cart

I have searched and found several threads asking for this featrure to be implemented - being able to auto add a free gift to cart isn’t excatly a groundbreaking idea - the current Buy X get Y discount relies on the customer adding both items to cart before the discount is applied which is clunky and inevitably leads to orders going out without the free gift leading to additional shipping costs - how hard can it be for Shopify to tweak the Buy X get Y feature so that the free item is added automatically? Our old CS Cart ecommerce software had this feature and most others also seem to.

For non plus users - checkout extensions are not a supported feature. Might be that Shopify releases a solution for this in the future/ decides to support auto add to cart for bxgy.

It’s only now that more advanced discounts are even possible on the platform. Previously as a merchant you’d be stuck with only Fixed / % off on product / order.

Pretty sure they’ll take the feedback and improve.

This is a common limitation with Shopify’s native “Buy X Get Y” discount. The free gift doesn’t appear automatically in the cart or at checkout and usually requires the customer to add it manually.
