Today, Shopify announced Automated collections with metafields ( https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/custom-data/metafields/automated-collections ) which looks useful. One prime area of interest I have is Year-Make-Model (YMM) selectors for Vehicle fitment as used in almost every automotive parts business. The existing Apps in the Shopify App Store for YMM are cumbersome, costly and not very efficient for large inventories.

I would be very interested in ideas/brainstorming with others interested in this or similar use cases? I almost feel like there is an opportunity missed on this release to create “dynamic automated collections” - i.e. - I wouldn’t want to create automated collections for every combination like “parts that fit 2018 Jeep Wrangler” , “parts that fit 2020 Jeep Wrangler”, “parts that fit 2017 Buick Encore” , but would love to have an automatically created collection based on product Metadata having Year Make Model match . Maybe I’m missing something, but I think it is so close and could be used for similar use cases.

One frustrating aspect of Shopify is “Shipping profiles” - yes, you can hand select “fragile” or “oversized” or “lithium battery” products into separate Shipping Profiles, but, there is no good option to access assign products in Bulk or based on conditions like metadata (or even the list of options used by Collections). It would be a big step forward if Shopify added a “Shipping Profiles” option, just like the “Automated Collections” attribute they just added, that would allow Meta fields to be used for bulk assignment of Products to matching “Shipping Profiles”. Thoughts welcome. Shopify, if you’re listening, how about adding this or something equivalent soon? Let me know - it would save 100s of hours doing the Shipping Profiles
