Automated way to place product descriptions?

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if there is an app or a way to automate product descriptions? My store has alot of products and most of my products will have the same descriptions.

Is there an app that can AUTOMATE the description for all the products just once instead of writing in the same description one by one for each product (which would take me forever?)

Sorry I’m new to Shopify.

I think the best way to do this is by using a spreadsheet. Here’s how to do in Google Sheets:

  1. Fill in the product description of the first column

  2. Click on the cell

  3. The cell is now highlighted and has a blue box in the bottom right corner. Click and drag down on that box.

  4. When you release you’ll see that all the cells have now been populated with that description.

An alternative way is to copy / paste in the column. Just copy groups of columns and paste, then recopy that new group of columns and paste (so you have double the amount of columns selected), etc until you’ve filled up the all the columns.

If you do stuff like this often then you could have a custom app built to help automate it, but you’d still have to spend time entering the product description and assigning it to products, probably would be faster still doing in a spreadsheet then uploading that to Shopify.

I took a look around our App Store and found an app called Auto Description Generator 2.0. This offers the functionality to automatically generate descriptions to add a sense of professionalism to your store, as opposed to having blank descriptions. You can also look to use our built in feature of exporting and importing CSV files to bulk copy and paste your product descriptions. By using a CSV file, you can import or export a large number of products and their details at one time. Check out our guide to learn how to do this, but always be sure to back up your product details before doing any changes.
