We’ve noticed that for the past few days the automatic country selection is no longer working on our store. Instead of the Netherlands being selected by default, it now shows “-”.
Because of this, customers only see the credit card option and not iDEAL, which discourages them from completing their purchase. Customers now have to manually select the Netherlands first, which was not the case before.
To properly investigate why the automatic country selection is no longer defaulting to the Netherlands and why iDEAL is not appearing, I’ll need a bit more information from you:
• Has anything recently changed in your store settings, theme, or payment configuration?
• Which payment provider are you using for iDEAL (for example Mollie, Stripe, etc.)?
• Could you share the store URL where this is happening?
• If possible, please send a short screen recording or screenshot showing the country selector displaying “–”.
Once I have these details, I’ll be able to identify the cause and suggest the best fix.

We haven’t changed anything in our store settings, theme, or payment configuration. This issue started suddenly a few days ago.
We are using Shopify Payments for iDEAL.
You can see the issue by going to mytutor.nl and adding a product to the cart and proceeding to checkout.
As you can see in the screenshot, the billing address country automatically shows “-” instead of the Netherlands. For your information, we sell a digital product, which is why there is no shipping address shown.

Hey there – just wanted to chime in on this topic as interestingly I’ve been running into the same issue since earlier this week as well. This was never the case before, ‘Nederland’ was always preselected which suddenly was no longer the case. I reported this behaviour to Shopify Support and just heard back from them that it should be fixed now, and was probably caused by some background update that Shopify pushed. Checking on my website, it does seem to be fixed now! Hopefully for you as well.
