I would love to see automatic discounts available for on LOS lite. I have a single location. So most of the additional benefits of PRO are not useful. Automatic discount is the only feature I would use on PRO. It would be very convenient to have this feature. But the additional cost for the PRO does not justify the benefit.
Automatic discounts at checkout are still a POS Pro feature. On Lite, the practical workaround is manual discounts:
- Create the promotion in Shopify Admin under Discounts, with clear dates and eligibility rules.
- In POS, add a discount tile to the smart grid so staff can apply the same percentage or dollar amount in one tap.
- Add a note to the tile, or use a staff checklist, so the discount is only applied to eligible items.
- Send the request through Shopify Support and the POS app feedback option. Shopify tracks feature requests, especially when Pro is not practical for single-location stores.
For occasional sales, manual tiles are usually cheaper than paying for Pro all year.

That surely makes sense, especially for a single location where even most POS Pro features wouldn’t justify the extra cost. Automatic discounts can be especially handy for recurring sales since staff don’t have to manually apply codes at the register. It would be nice if more individual POS features could be purchased a la carte, as opposed to being bundled into the high-tier. For now, you can set up promotions with discount codes when applicable, but I do agree that automatic discounts would be a much better experience at POS.
