This seems like such a basic feature that 99.9% of sellers need but I cant find a suitable solution.
I need my product variants to auto update each other when I make a sale. I have thousands of lines so manual updates are not practical.
All the answers indicate that Shopify can’t do this natively which seems strange.
At the moment we use a third party package for picking/packing/shipping which achieves this by linking SKUs in a multipack. You update the smallest variant SKU quantity and it filters stock through the larger quantity SKUs. I am looking at moving away from this third party and this is the feature that is preventing this.
Right now if I were just using Shopify i would have to stock the variants individually.
X1 = 100
X10 = 10
X50 = 2
This in its self is a problem because my total stock shows as 300 and a customers check out all of the variants at once and then I have oversold.
My third party site (Cloud Commerce Pro) can combine the three variants under a master sku which is the one with the lowest denomination, so I stock the x1 variant with 100 and it will fill the other variants automatically on Shopify, however it does it the same way as the above example again leading to overselling.
I need a way to link the variants to a master that controls the stock levels of the other variants automatically and critically in real time after a sale but will not allow a customer to check out more than the total stock available.
I am hoping that there is an obvious solution to this and I have been looking at it wrong. I cant believe that the millions of stores on Shopify have to manually update their quantity variants after every sale!
