Avoiding Ineligibility for Automatic Upgrades

Hi all,

I searched the forum, reached out to Shopify themselves, and tried a “Shopify expert.” No luck.

Two Questions:

1. How do I know if the code I’m modifying makes me ineligible for automatic upgrades?

2. Is there a way to tell that that I’m now ineligible?

There are basic coding changes I want to make, but the reward doesn’t seem worth the risk if I may end up stuck on an old platform. According to Shopify, modifying code can make you ineligible (https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-store/themes/extend/theme-code))

Surprised I couldn’t find any answers to this. I tried using common sense but you have to have a deep understanding of Shopify to understand what code may interfere with an automatic upgrade.
