Recently Shopify made B2B available on the Basic plan.
This is a big shift.
Earlier, B2B features were mostly limited to higher-tier plans. Now, smaller businesses can also start selling wholesale directly on Shopify.
But what does this mean for B2B / wholesale apps?
Some basic use cases may reduce
Businesses that only needed simple pricing or customer-specific catalogs might rely on Shopify’s native features now.
But apps are still very relevant
Advanced workflows like:
- Custom pricing logic
- Complex approval flows
- ERP integrations
- Advanced reporting
…still need dedicated apps.
My take:
This won’t replace B2B apps. It will push them to become more specialized and value-driven.
Good for merchants. Challenging (but exciting) for app developers.
