Backing Up Products? Catastrophic Failure

Question: Besides the built in bulk export of products, what options are available for robust backup and recovery?

Background: We work on a lot of stores. This work is focused on the creation of products en masse and occasionally involves deleting products en masse. Everytime we delete products, we have to pinch ourselves to make sure that we’re not having psychotic breaks and bulk deleting all of the products, by accident.

Since we make software, we also know that issues on the frontend can occur. For example, the UI/UX could get out of sync with the frontend code and what appears to be configured in the search results is not actually synced up with what the code thinks is happening. This type of thing could also lead to catastrophic failure.

I will always recommend Rewind Backups for this. It’s been around since 2016, has 4.9 stars and over 1000 reviews, and has great service and support.

With that said, there are a number of apps that do product backups. Always look at the overall rating, number of reviews, and cost. Most apps will offer a free trial period, it can’t hurt to try a few!

Some other options:

  • BackupMaster Backups (5.0 stars, 108 reviews, $19/month, 7-day trial) - second most popular after Rewind, great reviews)
  • TinyBackup (4.8 stars, 25 reviews, FREE) - only been around for 3 months, seems to be entirely free - wonder if that will change once they acquire enough customers

Thank you!
