Multiple merchants report sudden bans from Shopify Payments via a generic “legal” email, with no reason provided and no apparent appeal path. Follow-up emails didn’t explain causes; one message implied the ban is permanent.
Impact noted:
Forced to switch to third‑party gateways that may redirect offsite, raising conversion concerns.
Facebook/Instagram checkout became unavailable when Shopify Payments was disabled; one user cites Facebook’s pressure to enable checkout to keep the shop active.
Key questions raised:
Is there a US credit card gateway that keeps customers onsite (no redirect)?
Can Facebook/Instagram checkout be used without Shopify Payments?
Is there any way to regain Shopify Payments after a ban?
Attempts/outcomes:
One merchant used Authorize.net but reported a poor experience and later shut down the site; Shopify Payments was never reinstated.
Another user claimed to have a solution but only shared privately; a different user later said their issue was resolved without details.
Status: No confirmed resolution or guidance. Unanswered issues remain about reinstatement and social checkout compatibility.
I have been selling on Shopify and 2 days ago I was sent an email from a generic “legal” address telling me that I am no longer able to use Shopify Payments. I was not provided any reason even when I replied asking for one. What type of business practice is this? They don’t give people the opportunity to get into compliance if they see something wrong? I now have to utilize a 3rd party gateway which will likely redirect people off of my page to complete a payment, which is going to drastically kill conversions in the long run. Anyone else experiencing this? The least they could do is tell me why. What a HORRENDOUS experience.
Does anyone know if there us an option in the US for a gateway to take credit cards that does not redirect onto a 3rd part site?
Exact same issue here. They wouldn’t tell me why or how to fix it either. From the second email it doesn’t sound like there is away to get it back. I’m not sure if I should continue building here. Facebook also no longer will link up.
Hi, so you had Facebook & Instagram checkout enabled and now that you’re banned from Shopify Payments, it no longer allows Facebook checkout to be enabled? Facebook just sent out an email saying to get hooked up to their checkout or your store will be inactive on Facebook. When you were enabled, did it only allow Shopify Payments or could you enable the Facebook checkout & the use another payment provider?
II’m having teh same issue, may have to create a new store profile or go to Big Comerce. Facebook is too big to lose all because of Shopify Payments.
I didn’t, had to install Authorize.net in place of Shopify Payments. Authorize was HORRIBLE, I will never do business with them again. I have since shut that site down (for other reasons) but I was never able to get Shopify Payments back
