Had the same issue today and the FIX was:

Go to IPAD settings and select “Bluetooth” > Forget This Device “Socket CHS”

Go to the SHOPIFY APP select MORE > SET UP HARDWARE

Select BARCODE SCANNER then follow the instructions on screen until PAIR BARCODE SCANNER > VIEW AVAILABLE DEVICES

This is where I was previously stuck and barcode scanner won’t connect. WAIT 30seconds before a loud BEEP and SOCKET SCANNER appeared as an option to select.
PROBLEM SOLVED
[I’ve never waited that long for a device to connect BUT it seems to be common with this system.]
Remember: FORGET the scanner in ipad settings! // Wait bit longer than usual for connection
