Best way to have multiple options available of same design

Topic summary

A merchant is struggling to organize product variants for designs offered across multiple product types (t-shirts, sweatshirts, drinkware) with different option requirements. T-shirts and sweatshirts need size and color variants (Medium-3XL in white, black, charcoal), while drinkware items (coffee cups, glass cans, tumblers) require no size or color selection.

The Challenge:

  • Default Shopify variants create an overwhelming 33+ separate buttons
  • Drinkware shouldn’t display size/color options, but shirts/sweatshirts need them
  • Goal is one product page per design with clean variant selection

Proposed Solution:
A product options app (Easify Product Options) was recommended that:

  • Creates custom option sets instead of standard Shopify variants
  • Uses conditional logic to show/hide options based on product type selection
  • Displays size and color fields only when customers select hoodies or t-shirts, not drinkware
  • Keeps the interface clean and organized under a single product listing

Screenshots demonstrate the conditional logic setup and resulting customer-facing interface.

I’m looking for the best way to bundle all available options of one design into one product with multiple variants. For instance, I have a design called “A”. I offer this in a white T-shirt with sizes from Medium to 3XL, as well as a black T-shirt with same size options, charcoal T-shirt with same size options, as well as a white, black, and charcoal sweatshirt with the same size options. That’s the easy part. Where I’m running into trouble is incorporating the drinkware options, coffee cup, glass can, and tumbler, with the same design, but no size or color options. Essentially, what I want is a way to showcase each design only once on the product page and then once you click on the design you like, you go to the page where all the variants are available, which sounds simple enough, but I just can’t figure out how to get the drinkware options on there as a variant without them being associated with a size and color as well without having an overwhelming cluster of 33 buttons of available option listed separately on the side to select from, which is obviously overwhelming and will drive people away, I’d think.

Thanks for any help or advice you have.

Hi @daphpocket

It sounds like what you’re trying to do is display all product types (shirts, sweatshirts, drinkware, etc.) under one design without overwhelming customers with too many variant buttons. One way to manage this is by using a product options app like Easify Product Options.

Instead of relying on Shopify’s default variants (which can quickly become unmanageable), you can create custom option sets—like product type, color, size—without generating hundreds of variants. This also lets you skip adding unnecessary options (like size for mugs), while still keeping everything organized under one product page. Here’s how it works:

  • This is the result:

  • This is the app setting:

To make sure that Size and Color options only show up when your customers choose hoodie and T-shirt, not cup, simply use Conditional Logic in the Advanced Settings like this:

This app is straightforward, and I believe it will work well for you. Reach out to Easify if you need any assistance! :hugs:
