Bots creating numerous customers accounts

For the past few weeks I have seen a surge in customer profiles created by bots

I know these arent legit customers as the emails are similar to this

sq9qlbgalomr7kq@gmail.com

Should I deleted these records from my customer list?

is this harmful in anyway?

So far i was able to stop these bots leaving orders in the abandoned cart by de listing the 1 item that they were targeting

Hi @adelinema

Since you are a Shopify partner, these are automated account creations and are safe to remove with bulk customer actions or flow rules. These artificially boost metrics and, if synced to marketing tools, can impact email deliverability. Add reCAPTCHA on customer accounts, require email verification, and block disposable domains to stop future bot signups.

Thanks for the tips
Im trying to do this part:

A) Disable unnecessary customer account creation
If customers don’t need accounts:

  • Go to Settings → Customer accounts

  • Set to Accounts are optional or disabled

but dont see the option to select?

Refer to my screen shot

can you advise?
Thanks
Adeline

Hi,

Hope this will help

Yes, it is safe to delete those customer records. They aren’t dangerous but clutter data and marketing metrics.

You already did one smart thing by delisting the targeted product. Otherthings can be done: add CAPTCHA to forms, avoid unnecessary signup forms, monitor email marketing tools and avoid auto-syncing new customers into campaigns and disable or limit customer accounts.

Hey! I’d recommend a customer blacklist app. This will allow you to block that bad customer’s email from ever coming back. The one that I use is called Blox. It actually connects any new information related to that same person, so you’re not having to continually re-block each new email the same person creates. Hopefully that helps you out!
