Reading the articles about everyone complaining about these bots and nobody has a solution. It’s been years!!! Shopify is supposed to be the best and yet, there’s nothing they are doing to protect our businesses from scam bots. Not only filling our email lists with junk emails but messing up our ocnversion rates. How long will this go on for??? SHOPIFY W T F!
Yes, this has been going on for years
- Shopify isn’t fixing it (they protect servers, not storefront behavior)
- Bots pollute emails, kill conversion rates, and break ad data
- Forums won’t help most advice is outdated or useless
What actually works (fast)
- Add Turnstile / hCaptcha + honeypot to all forms
- Filter bot sessions out of GA4 & Meta Pixel
- Lock discounts & affiliates behind real user checks
- Use Cloudflare behavior rules (not country blocks)
Reality check:
This won’t stop unless you implement protection. Shopify won’t do it for you.
try to enable “email confirmation link” (aka “double opt in”). Most of the email marketing tools (for example klavio) have double opt in. After enabled, as soon as, anyone enters the email, it sends an confirmation link to that email. Most bots never clicks these confirmation emails. It will reduce the junk email drastically.
To add to the double opt-in recommendation, you have Flow at your disposal to delete customers and clean your email segments… There’s no reason not to use it, really. Set up some parameters, let it do the work.
