Kindly review and provide us with constructive criticism. What can we do better?
We mostly sell LED light bulbs, lighting and electrical supplies directly to consumers. But our target market is also professional electricians, contractors, etc.
What are we doing good? What can we improve and what are we doing bad?
Here’s my constructive criticism after reviewing your Shopify website, Brand Name Lighting. I’ll cover areas where you’re doing well, what could use improvement, and what might not be working effectively.
What You’re Doing Good1. Niche Focus: Selling LED light bulbs and electrical supplies is a great niche, especially since you’re targeting both consumers and professionals (electricians, contractors). This dual targeting makes sense because professionals are likely repeat buyers.
Navigation and Layout: The site appears clean and simple, with intuitive navigation that makes it easy for users to find categories like bulbs, fixtures, and other supplies. Good job on keeping things straightforward!
Product Variety: I noticed a wide range of LED products and supplies. This appeals to your professional audience who might need bulk options.
Professional Appeal: The design leans slightly toward functionality, which can resonate with contractors and electricians who prioritize efficiency over aesthetics.
What You Can Improve
1-Homepage Impact:
Lack of Visual Pop: Your homepage lacks a bold call to action or visuals that immediately grab attention. Adding high-quality images showcasing your products in real-world settings (e.g., LED bulbs in modern homes or commercial spaces) could create a stronger impact.
Hero Section: Consider a more prominent tagline or banner. For example, “Lighting Solutions for Every Space – Trusted by Professionals” could communicate your dual focus on consumers and contractors.
Trust Signals: Add customer testimonials, professional endorsements, or logos of brands you stock to boost credibility.
2-Target Audience Differentiation:
It’s unclear how you’re tailoring the experience for both consumers and professionals. Consider creating a dedicated “For Contractors” or “Trade Accounts” section with bulk pricing or special perks.
You might also create a blog or resource hub with practical guides for electricians (e.g., “Choosing the Right LED for Industrial Spaces” or “Energy Savings for Contractors”).
3-Product Pages:
Descriptions: Some product descriptions feel too technical without explaining benefits clearly to non-professionals. For example, instead of just stating the lumens and wattage, explain how this benefits the user (e.g., “This 60W bulb provides bright, energy-efficient light for large spaces, helping you save on electricity bills”).
Images: While the product images are functional, you could add more lifestyle or usage photos to show the products in action. This works wonders for engaging retail customers.
Reviews Section: If not already there, ensure all product pages allow customers to leave reviews and include ratings. Reviews build trust and provide valuable social proof.
4-SEO and Content:
Meta Titles & Descriptions: Some pages could have more compelling meta titles/descriptions. Instead of “LED Bulbs – Brand Name Lighting,” try “Energy-Efficient LED Bulbs – Trusted by Professionals | Brand Name Lighting.”
Content Strategy: Add blog content or FAQs focused on your niche. Articles like “How to Choose the Right LED Light for Your Home” or “Top 5 Tips for Electrical Contractors” could bring in more traffic and show expertise.
5-Mobile Optimization:
While the desktop experience is decent, ensure your mobile site is equally polished. Test for any slow load times, overly large images, or clunky menus on mobile devices. Mobile optimization is critical since many users browse on their phones.
6-Call to Action (CTA):
Strengthen CTAs like “Shop Now” or “Learn More.” Make them stand out more visually (bold buttons with contrasting colors) and strategically place them on pages.
7-Pricing Transparency:
While browsing, I noticed pricing isn’t always clear until you open the product page. Consider showing prices directly on category or search result pages to reduce friction for buyers.
What’s Not Working (or Needs Rethinking)
1-Lack of Engagement Features:
The site could feel static to some users. Interactive tools like a “Lighting Calculator” (to calculate lumens or wattage for a room size) or a “Product Finder” based on customer needs could make browsing more engaging.
Live chat or a chatbot could help both DIY users and professionals who may have specific questions about compatibility or installation.
2-Trust Badges Missing:
Including “Free Shipping,” “Secure Checkout,” or “Energy Star Certified” badges near the cart or product pages would reassure buyers and help conversions.
3-Differentiation from Competitors:
Your site doesn’t clearly communicate why someone should buy from you instead of Amazon or local suppliers. Highlight unique selling points like bulk discounts, faster shipping, or customer support tailored for professionals.
Actionable Next Steps1. Add a hero banner with a strong tagline, product visuals, and a clear CTA.
Create a resource hub or blog to educate and attract both consumers and professionals.
Improve product descriptions with benefit-driven language and usage examples.
Implement reviews and trust badges to build credibility and encourage conversions.
Consider launching an electrician-specific trade account with special pricing.
If you need any other assistance, feel free to reply and I will try my best to respond.
Best regards,
Daisy
Thank you so much for taking the time to review our site. We are taking all your suggestions into consieration.
We already started making some improvements, examples:
We show the price AND inventory available directly on the collection page, not just inside the actual lighting and electrical products detail page. See our Half Series LED Light Bulbs, it’s a unique collection of half mirrored or half chrome light bulbs, that takes away the glare of the light bulbs and adds stunning design to any room. Especially useful in vanities with mirrors.
We signed up for various trust badges. These are not cheap, but we want the trust of our customers when they want to purchase light bulbs, they should know they are buying from a safe and trusted source. We are simply waiting for the reviews to come in so that they can be displayed. We are also waiting for final approval for government seals (like the Energy Star program).
