I have a Shopify store based in Brazil and I’m currently on the Basic plan.
I saw some information saying that Shopify charges a 2% third-party transaction fee on the Basic plan when using an external payment provider. However, I could not find this clearly inside my admin plan comparison page.
Since Shopify Payments does not seem to be available in Brazil, I will need to use a local/external payment gateway.
Can you please confirm:
Does the 2% third-party transaction fee apply to Brazilian stores using an external payment provider?
Also, does this fee apply to Pix, boleto, and credit card payments?
Yes, Shopify will include a 2% third party transaction fee. “Transaction fees are in addition to processing fees charged by your third-party payment provider.”
From what I understand, yes,the 2% third-party transaction fee on the Basic plan generally applies when you’re using a payment provider other than Shopify Payments. Since Shopify Payments isn’t available in Brazil, that fee would typically apply to payments processed through external gateways, including Pix, boleto, and credit cards if they’re handled by that provider. That said, I’d recommend confirming with Shopify Support since they can verify the exact fees for your store and payment setup.
There is no transaction cost when using Shopify Payments. However, you have to utilize an external or third-party payment method because Shopify Payments isn’t available in Brazil. In that scenario, all orders handled via those external gateways are subject to a 2% transaction fee from Shopify on the Basic plan.
I hope this is useful! If this remark answers your question, please mark it as the answer.
Yes, the 2% third-party transaction fee does apply to Brazilian stores on the Basic plan. Since Shopify Payments isn’t available in Brazil, you’ll use a third-party payment provider, and Shopify charges third-party transaction fees which vary by plan — 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow/Shopify, 0.5% on Advanced. Unfortunately there’s no waiver just because Shopify Payments isn’t offered in your country.
The fee applies to the order total regardless of payment method, so Pix, boleto, and credit card payments processed through your local gateway (Mercado Pago, PagSeguro, etc.) are all subject to it. It doesn’t apply to manual payment methods like cash, COD, bank deposits, or POS orders.
Also note this fee is in addition to the processing fees charged by your payment provider — you’ll see it on your Shopify bill under Settings > Billing > Transaction fees.
If your volume is decent, upgrading your plan can pay for itself just from the lower fee rate, so worth running the math.
