Brooklyn Theme Nesting Collections Possible?

Hello,
I am using the Brooklyn theme.

I have two collections: Gifts for Special Occasions and Gifts for Graduation.

I would like to have Gifts for Special Occasions be the main collection. When you navigate to it, I would like to be able to see the collections Gifts for Graduation, Gifts for Valentine’s Day, Gifts for Mother’s Day etc.

Is this possible, to nest a collection within another collection?

Thank you!

Hi there! When you say that you want to nest collections do you mean that you want this done within your menu or on a page itself?

If you want your collections nested within your menu, like a dropdown menu (example shown here) you can do this by creating each collection following this guide and then connecting those collections to your menu following this guide. Once your collections are connected to your menu, you can nest your collections into a dropdown menu following this guide here. Ultimately, you will need to go to Online store > Navigation, click the menu you want to edit and on the page you are brought to you can click and drag the collection/menu item underneath the collection you want it nested under.

Instead, if you want to go to the page “Gifts for Special Occasions” and see the collections “Gifts for Graduation”, “Gifts for Valentine’s Day”, “Gifts for Mother’s Day” etc. listed (example shown here) there are a few options to get this done. If you are using Brooklyn (a vintage theme) you would need to have this custom coded or you can use a page editor app. I’ve included a list of some popular page editor apps below that you can take a look at. However, the best option to do this would be to switch to an Online Store 2.0 theme. If you were to use an Online Store 2.0 theme you can create a specific page template for your “Gifts for Special Occasions” page. In this template you would be able to add a Collection List section and connect all of the sub-collections to that page. You can read more about using templates with your theme on this page here. This page here on using sections and blocks in your theme editor will also help you add the “Collection List” section to that template.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. I’m happy to share more detail if you need it.

Hello, it’s been a few years, but I see that your answer has been answered only partially. You can indeed code custom solution and integrate things in your theme directly, but that’s very manual or requires a lot of time. If you’d like to created nested collections and create breadcrumbs for them you can checkout the app Smart Collection Pro it makes it possible nest collections and create breadcrumb from it to add it to your store via a theme extension. It will even automate the products you’ll get in the collection based on the conditions you define!

Let me know if it helps!
