Hello,
A client of mine reported that some products were being discounted when they were excluded from the discounted collection. Everything was set up correctly a year ago for the discount, so I was surprised to see there was an issue now.
After speaking with Shopify support, it seems that if you create a collection attached to a discount code, which relies on a condition of “Product Type - > Is NOT equal to” and select a custom product type from the dropdown, then the collection WILL include that product type in the collection.
It seems to me this is a major bug, because the pop-up only lists the defined product types, and if you select “Is not equal to” then that means it should exclude anything with that product type selected in the dropdown.
What is happening it seems, is that Shopify is not checking the “Custom Product Type” any more because they now have the “Standard Product Type” fields which are by default not populated.
But, when you select “Product Type” in the Conditions, the Collection pop-up is NOT listing anything from “Standard Product Types”, only “Custom Product Types” which does NOT work.

Bug??
