Bulding a community

What are your tips for building a community around a brand through organic methods ?

Hi @BernardLauret

You need a tool in your tool box that allows for community building, ie Facebook Groups, Discord, or Twitch, there are a ton.

You also need to provide value to your desired audience. This needs to be something that you can produce regularly and that your community will consider valuable. This can be teaching or educational. There are communities of all types, so there’s no free lunch.

Community building is a long term play and will take a ton of effort before it can be monetized. It’s very hard for a small business to achieve but not impossible.

Hi @BernardLauret

I have a few ideas here. Hope they can help you

1. Define Your Brand and Community Purpose

Before attracting customers, clarify:

  • What makes your brand unique? (story, mission, values)
  • Who are your ideal customers? (demographics, interests)
  • What type of community will resonate with them? (support group, lifestyle brand, exclusive club)

For example, a perfume brand could build a community around fragrance education, exclusive scent drops, and customer testimonials.

2. Leverage Social Media for Engagement

Choose platforms that align with your audience’s behavior:

  • Instagram and TikTok for behind-the-scenes content and storytelling
  • Facebook Groups for customer engagement and discussions
  • Reddit and Discord for in-depth, niche conversations

Content strategies to drive engagement:

  • Ask questions and run polls (e.g., “Which scent should we launch next?”)
  • Feature user-generated content from customers using your products
  • Share educational content on scent layering and fragrance selection
  • Run challenges and contests to incentivize participation

3. Build an Email and SMS VIP Club

Encourage sign-ups by offering exclusive perks:

  • Early access to new collections
  • Personalized scent recommendations
  • Birthday rewards and loyalty points

Use email marketing tools like Klaviyo or Shopify Email to send:

  • Weekly tips and brand stories
  • Customer spotlights and testimonials
  • VIP-only flash sales and special offers

4. Foster Engagement on Your Shopify Store- Enable product reviews and Q&A sections to encourage customer interaction

  • Implement a loyalty program with rewards for reviews, referrals, and social media shares
  • Offer limited-edition product drops to create exclusivity and urgency

For example, a seasonal perfume launch with only 200 bottles available can drive excitement and increase demand.

5. Collaborate with Micro-Influencers and Customers- Identify brand ambassadors who genuinely love your products

  • Share customer stories and testimonials on your channels
  • Offer incentives for user-generated content, such as small discounts for social media posts featuring your products

6. Host Live Events and Webinars- Use Instagram and TikTok Live for perfume-making workshops or behind-the-scenes content

  • Organize exclusive Facebook community events, including Q&A sessions and giveaways

7. Engage on Reddit and Niche Forums- Participate in fragrance-related discussions without being overly promotional

  • Provide value by sharing expertise, such as tips on making perfumes last longer
  • Join relevant subreddits like r/fragrance or r/beauty to build credibility

I hope this helps

Best,

Daisy
