Bulk activate/deactivate variants by location + exception report for inactive stock

Problem: Shopify separates inventory tracking (quantity) from activation (sellable at location) — but only quantity can be managed in bulk. Transfers, CSV imports, and the bulk editor all update stock, but none change activation state.

The result: On hand > 0 but Available = —. The variant is invisible to POS and unfulfillable online, with no native way to detect or fix this at scale.

Request:

  1. Add “Active at [Location]” as a bulk editor column and CSV field
  2. Add a “activate at destination” option when receiving transfers
  3. Add an inventory exception filter: On hand > 0 AND Available = blank

Impact: Affects every multi-location merchant doing transfers or new-location rollouts. Currently requires manual per-variant fixes with no bulk path out.

Have you tried this:

Products > Inventory > select the products you’d like to update > click bulk edit

You should see an option to edit both the ‘available’ and the ‘on hand’ amounts in bulk (you can copy/paste or drag the bottom right corner of the selected cell to apply a change to multiple rows)
