Businesses should steer clear of Shopify

Following is the text of a review I left today on Trustpilot (if you are a business using Shopify, please take notice):

I truly wish I could give less than one star. I received notice from Shopify that an item I purchased was delivered. In fact, it was not delivered (and has not even shipped). When I tried to contact Shopify I was entered into AI-Hell, with a chat bot that could not answer my questions and WOULD NOT refer me to an actual human being. I searched online for ways to contact Shopify directly, bypassing their AI chatbot, but every email address I could find was deactivated. If there is no way to reach customer service, then my remedy is to dispute charges with my credit card company, which I will assuredly do. Shopify has chosen to hide behind AI to shield itself from its customers, which is the exact opposite of providing customer service. I hope that businesses associating with Shopify will realize what an utter turnoff this is to customers who get to pick where to purchase their goods, and that they will quickly move away from using Shopify’s “services.” In the meantime, caveat emptor. My next stop will be my state’s attorney general office of consumer affairs.

Hi @rosenbe Be specific
Shopify’s only responsibility for OTHER BUSINESSES is if you are report some sort of abuse like actual fraud WITH PROOF.
Shipping delays are not crimes etc.

Shopify is like a mall, or shopping center:
Did you actually buy a SHOPIFY product such as an expensive POS hardware from an actual store ran specifically by SHOPIFY itself.
Or did you buy from a store renting space in the mall.

For THIRD PARTY transactions you need to take complaints about purchases from specific store to that SPECIFIC store not the land-managers office.

Take a step back and a breath then just be aware of who you are buying from just like real life and go to them instead of blaming the real estate company, etc etc analogies.

Stuff like this is a factor in why contacting a publicly trade companies support gets harder and harder.

With all due respect, you are a fool! The trajectory is the exact opposite of what you have written. It is the increasing use of AI, and the decreasing ability to deal with humans in customer service, that is driving customer outrage. And when customers vote with their feet and stop using companies that hide behind Shopify, then Shopify will get to lie in the bed of its own making. And I very much look forward to watching it happen.

Ain’t nothing new under the sun, and Shopify isn’t special enough to get the attention. Scammers exist. Always have. If you don’t get what you ordered in a reasonable timeframe then get a charge-back. Easy. Happens many thousands of times every day. Can shopify improve? Absolutely. They can do more to vet merchants and keep them in check. But you do have to do your own due diligence. Sending money to an unknown website that likely has red flags just waving at you, isn’t the smartest choice.

“A” isn’t an excuse for a HUMAN to be vague and lack self control when told something they don’t want to hear.
It doesn’t matter if your upset at company A, pointing at AI just to get more upset about other company Z doesn’t solve anything.

I agree “AI” insisting on itself is a problem but it doesn’t make up for the problem that existed pre-internet:
Location Location Location.
Know where you are and who you are buying from, it’s common sense.
Caveat emptor doesn’t even apply here because of a complete lack of specifics that unironically are the hallmarks posts generated by AI.

Being actually specific when someone points out your being vague is how problems get actually solved.

If you need something to just lie to you so you feel better but doesn’t actually solve anything there’s always “AI” like chatgpt pre-programmed to be super agreeable to no effect.

Otherwise to repeat take a step back and be specific otherwise your hollering for nothing.

Hey @rosenbe

Welcome to the community and sorry to hear you had a bad experience.

Where did you actually purchase the item, what store, and how big an order was?
You know you can report the merchant (not Shopify) at

So that Shopify can look at the issue and maybe close the store and save some other people from a possible scam.

For AI support, yeah, there are a lot of complaints. Even if you type “Human support” or “Support advisor,” there is no guarantee that there is a free human for you. But recently, like a week or two ago think they changed to the “Chat with a human” button on https://help.shopify.com/en
Which should get you to queue for human support. Should, but I have not tested it yet.

Good luck with that. I’m sure that will get no one scared, and I am sure that Shopify has good layers on their side.

Also, if you have not read the community rules, try not to be rude to other members.
Paul is trying to help you out, and did not deserve to be called a fool.
