Buy x get y -- does the discount apply to the first item, or only on successive items

Hi there and Happy New Year,

I would like to offer the following discount structure for my bracelet store on Shopify:

Buy one bracelet at full price, and then get 20% on the next three bracelets after that. Meaning that the 20% only applies to the second, or third, or fourth item, but not the first item (which remains at full price).

However, the way I interpret your discount summary, it seems the 20% would apply to the whole order (including the first item), which I don’t want to do.

Is it possible to do what I am suggesting? Or is it only that the discount applies to all items once they cross the threshold?

Hi there, my intention is that they do NOT have to buy 4 bracelets in total: they could buy 2 bracelets, the first at full price and the second at 20% off, or they could buy 3 bracelets, the first at full price and the 2nd and 3rd at 20% off each…

I don’t think you can do it with the standard discounts from Shopify. You’d need a custom app or look for one in the store. I’m looking for how you’d go about coding an app for that, if I figure it out I’ll let you know.
