So we own a local retail shop for 20 years now selling specialized clothing and apparel. Recently we added Adult Toys to our offering. We are now wanting to get into the E-Commerce business and offer our products online. We are moving our current local retail platform to Shopify for Online and In-Store POS retail.
There’s one topic that seems to be very unclear and that’s Adult Toys. We understand most payment processing merchants don’t allow selling Adult Toys online as this clearly listed in their TOS. Which is fine. If we have to withhold selling our Adult Product offerings online through our website, that’s not an issue. We would rather dodge that grey area bullet anyways. I understand online stores have their websites regularly audited for their products offered to see if a retailer is selling items against the processors TOS.
My question is our In-Store Shopify POS side of business. I can’t seem to find an answer on this. Are we unable to sell our Adult Toys using Spotify POS in our physical retail store in risk of violating a processing merchants TOS or does this only apply to Online Stores?
I’m curious to know if a processing merchant would even be able to see what we are selling in-store using our Shopify POS system vs online where they can simply audit our online stores offerings, if any of this makes sense.
Example:
Selling an Adult Toy from our website, I would assume the Processing merchant could see details of that order along with financial information.
Selling an Adult Toy from our local in-store POS, would they still see that product information or would they simply just have the financial information for that transaction conducted in-store.
Our Adult Toy offerings are such a big seller for us in-store, we can’t simply stop selling them. We can not offer them online, no problem, but we can’t discontinue their in-store sales.
