I’ve seen an increase in posts like this: Trust & Safety - Why is shopify allowing scammers to operate
Is there any app, which actually checks / proves the store is not a scam or is fully trustworthy? And I do not mean the mainstream reviews apps, which allow you to create reviews yourself (even though some claim they “check for legitimacy”, they don’t check anything).
No the question is fundamentally flawed so unfixable and just leads to more bad questions and bot answers.
If it’s a scam store how is a sucker supposed to know the “app” isn’t just telling them what they want to hear.
Or why would the scammer even bother installing the app.
If it’s a legitimate store how do customers even verify what they are being told by that store that what they say isn’t bunk.

All in all no one can do anything about people not thinking things through before handing over money.
You can’t know for certain. But there are many signs and red flags. If you know what to look for, you can spot scammers right away. There’s not an app for this, only your own intuition.
Why can’t there be an app to verify and vouch? I mean, AI is getting pretty good now at things.
There are apps and badges that “verify”. But these are easily faked. To be truly guaranteed authentic, you need to put your business on the ground, and in the eyes of public scrutiny. Basspro.com is legit. How do I know? Because I can verify through physical and online research. It’s a real business. It’s tangible. I know their addresses. I know who owns it. Etc.
No app or badge or trust seal can do that.
The best thing you can do is be honest and transparent about who you are, where you are, and how your business operates.
I dunno, sounds like an AI could do that.
Honestly, no app can guarantee a Shopify store isn’t a scam, but some can help you check for red flags.
You can look up store reviews, verify their domain age, contact details, and see if the checkout uses Shopify’s secure system. If something feels off (too-good-to-be-true deals, no refund info, poor spelling), trust your gut. Apps can assist, but common sense and quick research are your best protection.
It is not a problem to build something with AI that checks common red flags but how to distribute that. A website like scamadviser yes sure but people will not check until they get scammed once. A Shoppify app like SecurEcommerce Shop Protection - Shopify Security | Shopify App Store it does something a bit different, and that is just for store owners. A browser extension, again it would be for small amount of people.
Ideally Shopify itself should have internal checks for those common red flags and if it pass some score to investigate. But we are far from that.
