It’s a long story but here goes.
paid thousands to a Fiverr freelancer ( freeloader) to build shopify shop back in feb 2024, shop built and did not really use until sep 2024 and really started getting 8th shopify in feb 2025, as eBay is now arguably a mobster , taking a larger and larger taste from client funds.
this aside, in march 2025 I suddenly got a dmca notice from shopify, mush as I protested and made my case to pixelunion, shopify, shopify ceo etc. I have eventually had to purchase the empire theme, fair enough. I made a backup of the theme and the settings data.json file prior to site b3ing taken down and knew that when I restored all should be ok. Big mistake.
i was not told however, that the version of the empire theme is 11.1 and shopify 2.0 , whereas my version of the empire theme that the rogue freelancer but on was 5.3, so I get in touch with pixelunion who say, oh dear you e got a vintage theme, we can’t do anything about it, you can follow this manual procedure or you can hand over further funds to our shooify partner.
i’mbeginning to think I’ve been here before with the mob, trying to extract every last cent from sellers.
basically are there any skilled coders on here, who can transfer my vintage theme code to the new theme code such that I can update it in future.
the old code has been heavily customised but is backed up and there are a few apps I have installed such as popconvert and adapt translate and social media marketing. But other than that
I have not a clue on coding , so shopify advised that I post on here to the community as obviously I do not wish to go near Fiverr ever again.
basically the people ,at pixelunion stated this, even though I have paid an extortionate £260 for their theme, unbelievable ? Incredulous? I can think of a few other words too

Hi
I understand your concern.
However, the Theme Updater Pro Plan which automatically updates the theme only works for Online Store 2.0 compatible versions stating Empire 6.0.0. The only way to update your theme to the latest version is to do this manually: Updating a theme manually.
If you need assistance with transferring the code modifications to the updated version, we recommend working with our preferred Shopify experts at Storetasker. They can help carry over customizations from the old theme or handle the full rebuild.
I know this is not the ideal solution for you but this is the only option to update your theme from a vintage version.
Kind regards,
Euwi
