Can anyone recommend a Shopify expert for an Australian physical store transition?

Hi All, i have a few queries, but will try to be succinct:

Outline: we are a physical store with a fully setup POS integrated with a woocommerce site. I am considering changing to a Shopify site, and potentially the Shopify POS as well.

I do not wish to learn how to migrate it, setup the Shopify site, or any other type of thing that i am no expert at. Im too busy with my business and would like to hire the right people.

With that i mind my first step is to find someone who can answer my questions and deliver on the requirements specific to our needs (which i am very familiar with).

Since i am in Australia I wondered if anyone on this forum could recommend a business that can help us ( i realise that they dont need to be based in australia but i did hear from someone that the Shopify POS side of things was not well supported in australia, whether this is true or not i dont know, but im sure an aussie based shopify guru would know)..

In any case i am asking the forum as i would prefer recommendations, rather than shooting blindly on the hire an expert page.

The things i need specific help with are:

Shop Design setup / migration / Shopify POS / integrating external sites to Shopify (ebay etc) / Hardware for a mac based system / advice on parcel handling - tracking etc best practices.

I realise this may require a few different experts as i doubt the person responsible for website design & migration is also savvy at the retail side of sending packages and using the POS in the best possible way.. But again i really don’t want to fumble thru setting this all up myself and would prefer to hire the right people for the right job(s)..

Hope this helps and look forward to any input thanks

The Shopify crew released the POS into market recently with the WisePad reader. There was a time where the card reader was a missing piece of the jigsaw here but that’s now been solved so ditches the need to have to use the EFPTOS terminal.

GorillaLab is someone you can add to your list to reach out to. I know the team fairly well and know a bunch of merchants that have used them in the past. No doubt there’ll be others.

Hi @oldbrowndog ,

Jason has connected you with the most up to date POS information for Australia!

In terms of the migration side of things and wanting to hire someone to do that for you, hiring a Shopify Expert is probably the best way to go about this. There are several apps in the Shopify App store which do this and is something to keep in mind. I’ll connect the WooCommerce migration apps below:

I know you touched on not wanting to blindly hire via the experts page, but the Shopify Experts directory is definitley the best place to find someone to work with and help you on this. Any of the Shopify Experts here are vetted by Shopify and have reviews so you can be sure you know who you’re working with. Once you log in with your Shopify details (you can set up a free trial for this if you haven’t already) and scout some of them out through a variety of filters. Let me know if you have any other questions about Shopify or getting set up and started!

P.S. Something to note with you being based in Australia is that you would be eligibile for Shopify Payments too!

Ok thanks for the tips..

I had intended to keep using my Tyro terminal for instore payments, and simply link that to either the Shopify POS (if i decide to use it) or keep it synced to my current POS if i decide the shopify pos (and the migration to it) are not worth the trouble..

I have noted many retailers in my area use shopify websites, but most use other POS systems, and i believe that is not necessarily because its a ‘bad’ POS but that some external hardware like receipt printers, scanners, syncing to tyro terminals, etc etc are not that well supported in australia.

OK!

Further to that i have just called Tyro & they do not offer syncing to Shopify POS, so that would answer my question as to why many local retailers use other POS systems synced to Shopify Ecommerce. If this new Wise Pay reader offered better rates perhaps more people would switch over but compared to the card rates Tyro offers me, using Shopify POS with the wisepay reader would need to offer a huge improvement over my current POS & tyro to be worth the much higher card percentage?

In terms of web payments, is the Shopify payments you mention called Shop Pay? I would assume giving customers that option at checkout, along with all the rest would be the go to option?

THanks for the tips on using Shopify experts, i’ll certainly feel a little better about searching there for help.

Thanks Jason, I kinda answered a bit in my response to the other post re. the wisepad reader, but just wanted to say thanks for the Gorilla Labs reference.

Looks like the part about finding someone to advise on the actual retail side of instore use as it relates to parcel tracking, printers etc might be harder to find, but that will also greatly depend on which POS i choose if i decide to migrate to shopify POS, or another one..

@oldbrowndog glad it helped you feel better with looking for an Expert to work with.

Shopify Payments and Shop Pay are different in the sense of Shopify Payments is the payment gateway which you would set up in your store admin to get enable your customers to pay and for you to get paid. It would be all in the admin and behind the scenes, while Shop Pay is an accelerated checkout that lets customers save their email address, credit card, and shipping and billing information and would be public for customers to see.

You can see more about them both below:

Any other questions, just let me know!
