Australia - Customer contacted me today to inform me that after making a credit card purchase in my store, several hours later his card details were being used by somebody in New York. He hadn’t used his card online anywhere else. Is this possible and can I do anything to prevent it happening again?
Hi, @BigJohnsJigs ,
Hank here from Shopify.
Sorry to hear this about your customer, but online security is something that we take very seriously here at Shopify.
Shopify’s PCI compliance and security features means that customers can feel safe as their card information can’t be seen by either store owners or by anyone at Shopify. For these reasons I am confident in saying there was no data breach with the customer’s information due to a recent purchase on your store.
My advice would be for your customer to contact their bank or card provider ASAP to ensure that the card is canceled, and their information protected. They can then follow up with their bank about how to obtain a refund from the fraudulent activity on their account.
With your store, the way the security features are set up within the admin means that you can be confident that there are no additional steps needed to ensure that customer details are secure within. That way your customers can be confident in continuing to purchase from your store.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
All the best,
Hank
