Can you add different colors to a specific style variant of a product?

Please explain your question.

The user goes to the product and selects a style. Then she can select colours from that style. Is that what you want?

Yes, the user goes to the product and selects the style (example tank top, t-shirt or hoodie). The hoodie doesn’t come in all the same colors as the tank top/t-shirts, so looking to specify the colors available for each style separately.

That is a standard Shopify feature.

  • You add two options Style & Colour
  • Then for each option, add the required values
  • Then when you scroll down you get a list of all the combinations of options
  • From there you can edit /delete the ones you don’t have

You really shouldn’t do this though, if your example is what you plan to implement. Hoodies/T-shirts are different products, you should set these up as products instead of variants. Technically you can set up as instructed, but this will mess up your SEO for sure and would potentially affect your feed to Merchant Center too, as if you have different prices for these variants, Google is likely to disapprove your feed for variants that have different prices.

These issues may not seem to be obvious right now, but it will impact your traffic long term. Worth consider and set up your shop properly.

Hello, thank you for your feedback! So you would recommend listing the tank tops, t-shirt and hoodies all individually even if they have the same design on them? OR should I list the design as its own product and then the blanks separately?

  • Making them separately helps you in SEO, and you’ll have more products.
  • Further, I would advise manually interlinking or using some apps to say that this design is also available in tank tops and t-shirts.
  • The dropdown variant generally works for colours and sizes.

One last thing to add, if you are using the Dawn theme (in version 7.0) there is a possibility to manually recommend a set of products in the production page without needing an app. I would suggest you to link products with the same designs in that block.
