A store that requires customer accounts for semi-custom clothing (to collect measurements) wants to allow guest checkout only for Gift Certificate purchases. They’re asking if Shopify supports product-specific guest checkout or if an app can enable it.
One response suggests some apps might help, mentioning Lockdown as a possible option, but isn’t certain. Most apps tend to enforce login rather than enable guest checkout selectively. A key edge case is how to handle shoppers already logged in from prior purchases who add a gift card to the cart.
No confirmed solution or built-in setting is provided. Next steps include evaluating apps (e.g., Lockdown), clarifying the exact business need for guest checkout on gift cards, and defining expected behavior for logged-in users who purchase gift cards. The thread remains open/unsolved.
My company makes semi-custom clothing. We work from measurements to ensure the best fit, so we need specific information to make their garments. So we require an account before checkout.
But when someone is purchasing a Gift Certificate, we’d like to let them us Guest Checkout. Is there a way - or an app - to do this?
There are a few apps that MAY be able to do this but I’m not 100% sure. Usually you want them logged in for any purchases and the apps tend to cater to that. Lockdown may be one that helps. I think the issue may be what if they are already logged in due to past purchases, and what happens if they are logged in and add gift card to cart. Is there a specific reason you want them to use guest when making gift card purchase?
