Can I add a 'filter by collection' option using custom code or a plugin?

there is no option in my filter settings to add ‘sort by collection’

can i add it with custom code or a plug in? i tried a few plug ins and they didnt work.

You can do it both ways.
btw I suggest custom code because it’s not hard to implement it, if your requirement is clear.
