Can I add an upgrade option to a product without affecting inventory?

Is it possible to have a particular product with selectable variants and then have another option for an upgrade?

I have some basic cloth masks in stock (in three prints) that I’d like to add the option for the customer to choose to upgrade to adjustable elastic. I don’t like having two variants because this messes with my inventory (since with or without adjustable elastic are the same mask). I’d like them to choose their print and then be able to add a $2 charge for the adjustable elastic or just leave it as basic.

Is it possible to do this?

You can achieve this by using an app.
We offer a Custom Product Options app that can do this:

https://apps.shopify.com/product-options-w3?surface_detail=custom+product+options+w3&surface_inter_position=1&surface_intra_position=3&surface_type=search

You can see the app working on our example store:

Thank-you!

Hi @WishyWashyCloth ,

I see that you have already found a solution to create your upgrade option, but I’d like to offer another suggestion with a specific demonstration so that other members facing similar issues can benefit from it.

To achieve this, you can utilize the free Easify Product Options app :hugs: . Here’s how you can use the app to set up your upgrade options:

  • Step 1: Create your custom options

You need to create 2 custom options:

The first option allows customers to choose the Mask Print. You can use the Image Swatches option type for a visually appealing selection.

The second option enables customers to decide whether they want to upgrade the mask to Adjustable Elastic or not. In this case, a Checkbox is the suitable option type.

  • Step 2: Select products that include the custom options

After creating the custom options, you can select the relevant product(s) in your store to include these options. This ensures that the options are only added on the corresponding product pages.

I understand that you might already be using another product options app. However, if you’re looking for a more budget-friendly app or one that offers easier usability and additional useful features, I recommend considering Easify Product Options :+1: .
