Can I add different descriptions for product variations without editing size names?

Is it possible to have different descriptions for the different variations?

example, I have small medium and large, however the measurements are different, can I add these to the variations without editing the description, or renaming the sizes!
example

small 10cm

medium 15cm

large 20cm

but I want the size to only read ‘small’ & when clicked to show the details ‘10cm’ in the description, or even a section saying measurements, 10cm?
I may be being stupid, however in wordpress this was always part of variations, to have measurements!

I have just read that product dimensions are not supported by shopify as its is.
i assume this not to be true! how frustrating!
I dont need it for packing, i need it so when people click on the variation, they can see the dimensions! surely this is a no-brainer>!?
