Can I calculate both total and dimensional weight shipping on a single order?

I sell items that the shipping needs to be calculated by both total weight and by dimensional weight. I need to know if Shopify or and add-on will allow me to have both types of shipping calculated for one order. For example, a person may select a box 6 rest mats that has a specific dimensional size, a box of two crib mattresses that are another dimensional size and 50 other single items that ship by weight.

I need to be able to specify the first two boxes in the system as “ships by itself” for Fedex to calculate the rates for each of the boxes and finally the other items will calculate individually, by total weight. Each of the three should pull their own shipping cost from Fedex and give a total for the shipping.

My products cannot be calculated as one large item with one shipping cost.

Is this possible?

The PluginHive app can calculate shipping using either the total weight or the dimensional weight. Additionally, it is capable of handling multi-piece shipments.

The closest solution we can offer to meet your business requirements is to calculate the total order cost based on the actual weight or the dimensional weight, whichever is higher. For products labeled as Prepacked (shipped individually), they will be placed in separate packages using the product’s dimensions and weight.

If this approach does not provide you with an accurate cost, we recommend providing an estimated cost at checkout. When generating the shipment, you can then specify one or more packages.
