Can I create a multi-seller platform without an app?

Hi, I want my store to allow other sellers to

  • login and manage their own listings,

  • create and manage their own listings,

  • allow me to review the listing and confirm publication,

  • split sales with a small percentage to me and the rest to the seller.

So basically a multi-seller platform. I have seen some apps discussed on the forum but is this possible without an app? If not, which app is recommended?

Hi, @DaisyK .

Thanks for reaching out and posting this question!

Due to the complexity of building a marketplace, such as having to develop a system to approve sellers or review listings, it would be easier to accomplish this through the use of a third-party app. For example, Multi Vendor Marketplace comes with the features that you’re looking for, such as providing a portal for your sellers to manage their listings, as well as setting up global commissions or separate commissions for your sellers. If you need any help with a third-party app, then the app developer is always available to assist you - simply reach out to them through the contact information found at the bottom of their app’s page.

I noticed that you’re a new member of our Shopify Community! I’d love to hear more about your business and share some resources to help you get started. Would you be selling any of your own products? Also, would there be a specific niche for the sellers to sell on your store?

Hi Elias, thanks for your reply. It is very helpful. Yes I sell my own products too. Everything is PDF downloads for speech therapy resources and educational materials for teachers and speech therapists. So very niche. I would really appreciate any other advice you have for me?? Thanks!

Hi, @DaisyK .

Thanks so much for following up and sharing the additional context!

This business model is definitely very niche as I’m not finding many resources on starting a speech therapy business, despite expanding my search to include wellness and health businesses. However, we do have one on creating online courses, which may be beneficial for the educational materials on your store.

That being said, depending on how close you are to launching your store, it may also be a good time to start thinking ahead about advertising your store. Do you have a marketing plan prepared at the moment?
