Am I able to create discount codes for personal use and staff? I have a bad feeling about it and wanted to make sure.

Nothing is wrong in it even bigger corporates do the same.
Infact you should create customer segment to provide automatic discount customer lies into it.
You can also add your regular customers in this segment to let them feel privilege.
