Hi everyone,
I have a WooCommerce store called www.koreanhomee.com, which sells Korean skincare brands and beauty products, and I’m thinking about moving it to Shopify. WooCommerce keeps getting slow for me, and the constant plugin updates are becoming a real headache, especially since I’m not very technical.
I only have basic WordPress experience, so I’m not sure if migrating to Shopify is something I can handle on my own. Should I hire a developer, or is the process simple enough for a non-techy person?
Hello! With over 15 years of experience developing hundreds of projects on Shopify, I recommend that you seek out a good professional for your migration. It is something that undoubtedly requires technical knowledge in the vast majority of cases.
I hope it goes really well, and congratulations on switching to Shopify! You’ll notice the difference.
Hey there @emmaoli3 first things first, well done and congrats on your decision, I’m positive it will serve you very well in the long run. Secondly, I’d advise you hire a Shopify developer who is quite experienced in store migrations so as to avoid any problems or errors in the process. It doesn’t have to be someone too pricy but just do due diligence and make sure their credentials are legitimate.
Is it a good idea to migrate WooCommerce to Shopify? It really depends on your tech level, but with the right tools, moving from WooCommerce to Shopify can be relatively painless. No coding is required to perform product, customer and order transfers using apps such as Cart2Cart or Matrixify. Shopify’s user-friendly interface makes theme setup easy, but a developer can really speed things up when it comes to customizations and more complex integrations. Begin by exporting your WooCommerce data, perform the migration on a Shopify trial, and double check everything prior to going live. You can experience little to no hassle, and have your store completely polished up ready for prime time, a Shopify expert could take care of your migration in no time at all.
Hi @emmaoli3 ,
If WooCommerce is getting slow and plugin maintenance is becoming too much, then moving to Shopify is a good choice - especially for non-technical store owners.
Can you migrate on your own?
Yes, the basic migration steps are beginner-friendly (importing products, pages, customers, etc.). Shopify’s interface is much easier than WordPress, and you won’t deal with plugins, hosting issues, or security updates.
But you should hire a developer if:
You want to keep the same URL structure for SEO
You need 301 redirects from WooCommerce → Shopify
You have many custom pages or custom product fields
You want your store’s design to match your current brand
You’re worried about losing ranking or traffic during the switch
Hey, thanks a lot for the encouragement and advice — I really appreciate it!
Just one more thing — since I have more than 1600 pages to migrate, could you give me a rough idea of the price range for something like that (in USD)? I’m just looking for a minimum–maximum estimate so I have an idea of what to budget for.
