Can I exclude my own visits and checkouts from my store's analytics?

Topic summary

Excluding a store owner’s activity from analytics is limited and inconsistent. Shopify staff confirm that owner visits are excluded from Traffic reports only if you’re logged into the Shopify admin and viewing the storefront in a tab within the same browser window. Incognito/private mode, a different window or browser, and most mobile/app views will count. Live View will still show your activity.

Checkout data: Your own abandoned checkouts still appear but can be archived. Add‑to‑cart timestamps aren’t shown; abandoned checkouts show when checkout started and, if attempted, payment attempt time in History.

Workarounds suggested:

  • Navigate the site via Online store > Themes > Customize (Theme Editor) to avoid tracking.
  • Preview the storefront from the admin “eye” icon. Test on desktop, logged in, same browser tab.

Limitations and requests:

  • You cannot delete analytics data or exclude by IP/hostname; no built‑in setting exists. Staff aren’t aware of apps to do this; custom development via Shopify Experts is suggested.

Current status: Multiple users still see their own visits recorded and request IP filtering. No confirmed product update; issue remains open.

Come on Shopify, Adding this feature is very helpful! If I run the website off to the side it wants to log into Shopify and not the website. Also Testing how it looks on Firefox’s, chrome, and other browsers is important step of testing. All those tests shouldn’t count as visits.

Hey is there any updates on this? It’s been over a year since this post, was hoping something has come of it!

Hey Rae!

Has there been any updates on this? I’m also having the same issue and it has been over a year since the original post. Would love to see if there’s some sort of app or setting for this!

I gave up caring and started to sub it from the reports. If you use the same browser as you are log into Shopify but if you are testing it on cell phone or iPad or android it doesn’t help.

Anyways - You can’t add hostname or Your own IP address or dns or anything like that. It even counts if you use other browsers from the same computer as people view. It counts when computers check your site for data like google, Facebook, etc. I really don’t understand why it counts google scans but it does.

I gave up caring. I care about cart and sales.

Exactly. It’s the most obvious thing they need. It’s messing up our stats. Just exclude our ip or something.
