Dear all,
Is it possible to generate a report using Shopify that contains products barcodes together with all other usual sales info?
Thank you,
NewStoreVan
Goal: Generate a sales report that includes product barcodes alongside standard sales data.
Current capability: Not available natively in Shopify analytics. Recommended workaround is third-party reporting apps (e.g., Better Reports, Report Pundit) that can filter/report by barcode.
Rationale: Barcodes are crucial for inventory reconciliation and for filtering in Excel. Another need is matching barcodes with SKUs to prevent duplicate SKUs (SKU = stock-keeping unit).
Requested enhancement: Add “barcode” as an editable/selectable column in sales reports. This feedback was submitted to developers.
Updates/roadmap: No commitment or timeline for a native solution. Merchants are advised to monitor the Shopify changelog for any future updates.
Data/privacy when using apps: Access varies by app. Merchants should review each app’s privacy policy on its App Store listing and the consent screen shown at install; the legal relationship is between the merchant and the app. A help guide link was provided, and an image illustrates where to locate the privacy policy in the listing.
Sentiment/status: Some frustration about reliance on paid apps; concerns acknowledged and forwarded. Issue remains open; third-party apps are the interim solution.
Dear all,

Hi,** @NewStoreVan **!
To be able to achieve this, you’ll need to install a third-party reporting app on your store. An app such as Better reports or Report pundit looks to be able to filter your sales report by product barcodes. As these apps are made by third-party developers outside of Shopify however, if you have any app-specific queries you can reach out directly to the app support team.
Out of curiosity, was there a particular reason why you’re wanting to generate a sales report that includes product barcodes?
Hi @Kimi_2 ,
I’m delighted to see your response.
Barcode is one of the most helpful key used when reconciling inventory, any discrepancy can be quickly reconciled by using barcodes. Also, it makes it very easy to filter inventory in excel if a unique code is present as we paste the same in the physical products.
(If you can have “barcode” listed in edit columns buttons that’s a huge relief).
Thank you,
NewStoreVan.
helps greatly
Thanks for that added context,** @NewStoreVan **!
I definitely see the advantages of being able to filter a sales report by barcode. I’ve submitted this feedback along to our developers, so that we can look at further ways of improving our platform for you and all of our merchants. Any updates to our platform will be listed in our changelog here.
Hi @Kimi_2 ,
Thank you very much for honouring my request, can’t wait to see the update on the platform!!
This resolves lots of my problems related to inventory, fingers crossed!
Cheers,
NewStoreVan.
** @NewStoreVan **
Anytime! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Shopify’s analytics and sales reporting. We’re always open to hear suggestions on how we can improve our platform, which is made possible from our merchants and users like yourself!
Just a note that we can’t guarantee when and if changes will be made, or provide a timeline for updates on this request. However, as mentioned, you can check new updates to Shopify on our changelog.
All the best!
Hi @Kimi_2 ,
I just wanted to jump back related to one of the suggestions you offered and understand another aspect of it.
When we subscribe to a third-party application, does the third-party service providers can see our sales, customer’s details and product info and detailed financial information on how our store performs?
Kind Regards,
NewStoreVan.
Hi,** @NewStoreVan **!
Because all third party apps have different privacy policies, it’s best to check with the app developers directly if you’d like more information on how an app accesses, uses or retains your store’s data. You can check an app’s privacy policy on the app listing in the Shopify App store under Support > Resources > Privacy policy (as seen on the image below), or by contacting the app developer.
For more information, when a merchant chooses to install an app from the Shopify App store, the legal relationship is between the merchant and the app. Shopify does, however, require all apps to present a consent screen to merchants prior to installation, which allows merchants to review the data points that the app collects. From there, it’s up to the merchant to decide whether or not they’re comfortable with the data that the app collects, as different apps will have different data from a merchant’s store that they need to collect. You can read more about this on our help guide here too.
Have we heard anything regarding an update on this ? Absolutely insane that everything that makes sense needs a third partry cash grab app. Would be nice to see actual improvements people ask for from Shopify.
Hello there,
It’s highly unlikely that option would be there in the near future. There are many aspects to this matter, and I’m pretty sure an in-house solution has low attributes to this as opposed to involving a third-party paid service.
Good luck with your reconciliations.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, @jrouleau . I definitely understand your frustrations on this matter and can assure you that we hear your concerns.
All of the feedback that we share with our developers are prioritised based on the needs of our merchants. As Shopify is ever-growing, this also happens on a large scale across our platform that it may take time for features to be considered for future releases.
I’ll go ahead and pass along the information you’ve shared here with me to our developers. We can only improve our platform from feedback from merchants like yourself, so we really appreciate you sharing your thoughts here with us.
I also have this same need so we can match up barcodes with SKU #'s so we do not duplicate a sku associated with a barcode when we are developing new items.
Thank you for adding your feedback back here! I’ll be sure to pass it along to our developers for further consideration.
