Can I integrate Stripe checkout instead of Shopify for payment processing?

Topic summary

A merchant wants to use Stripe’s native checkout instead of Shopify’s checkout to access Stripe’s chargeback protection features. The issue arises because Shopify Payments (which is powered by Stripe) doesn’t trigger a separate Stripe checkout session.

Key Points:

  • In regions where Shopify Payments is available, standalone Stripe integration isn’t offered as a third-party option
  • The merchant shared a video demonstrating their specific checkout session requirement

Proposed Solutions:

  1. Stripe Payment Links: Bypass the traditional cart flow by using direct payment links—suitable for subscriptions or limited product catalogs. Payments process through standard Stripe (not Shopify Payments), enabling access to Stripe’s full feature set
  2. Third-party app: “Easy Pie Shopify Stripe Checkout” mentioned as a potential integration solution

Trade-off: Using native Stripe checkout means payment data won’t sync with Shopify Payments analytics and reporting.

Is it possible to integrate stripe checkout instead of shopify checkout session due to my payment processor being stripe and NOT shopify?

Hey, @BallersClubKikz

Happy to help. The reason you are not seeing Stripe as a third-party payment provider would be due to your country of business either does not list Stripe as an available option or Shopify Payments is available instead.

Since Shopify Payments is powered by Stripe, if you are in a Shopify Payments supported region Stripe will not be available.

If there is anything else I can help you with, please let me know.

I have stripe as a payment processor through shopify but due to me trying to get chargeback protection for my store using stripe. I need to have the new checkout session but I do not have that since i’m on shopify and it doesn’t not prompt a stripe checkout session. I don’t know if you understand what I am saying. I can upload a video if you like.

Gotcha, so are you trying to send people to your checkout with a prefilled cart of selected items? So that they don’t have to manually add them to the cart?

If there is anything else I can help you with, please let me know.

Just add a Stripe Payment Link. That will do it. I would only do this if you sell subscriptions or a few items since it is not like an “add to cart” flow - best if you have like 3 subscription levels. Just add payment links and you can decouple from your CMS and do a headless strategy. You can also post those links on social media and get Stripe Checkout payments. But…it will all be in your standard Stripe account and not in your Shopify Payments data. That is the tradeoff.

The latest solution is available with ‘Easy⇔Pie Shopify Stripe Checkout’.
