I have a WordPress website ps2biosworld where i provide some game guidances, and I want to add a Shopify store to it to provide some gaming retro items like mousepads etc.
My website already has good SEO and Design, so I don’t want to lose it.
I searched on google a bit and found two options:
Keep my WordPress website and use a Shopify store on a subdomain (like shop.ps2biosworld.com).
Move my whole website to Shopify.
My question is, if I move everything to Shopify, can my homepage still look exactly the same as it looks now? I don’t want to change my homepage design. Its currently using a wordpress theme.
Which option is better if I want to keep my SEO and Design, and also have a Shopify store?
I just had a look at your WordPress site and it’s built pretty good SEO wise and the answer is that Yes you can replicate the whole design on Shopify as well.
Quick heads up as well, if you want it 100% same and not familiar with Shopify then you might not be able to make it 100% same by yourself until and unless you consult with a Shopify developer or have experience in Shopify.
Not many themes contains sections like these by default and it needs to be custom coded in the theme itself so you’ll have to be familiar with Shopify and Liquid code in both cases (if you move it completely OR get a sub-domain).
Either way, good luck with the migration. Happy to help during the migration of your store if you need any.
Hope that helps! If it did, a Like and Marking it as Solution goes a long way and helps others find the fix faster too.
If your WordPress site already has strong SEO and you’re happy with the design, I’d recommend keeping it on WordPress and using Shopify on a subdomain. It’s usually the lower-risk option and lets you keep your existing content and design intact.
Technically, you can recreate your homepage in Shopify, but it probably won’t look exactly the same unless you build a custom theme. A WordPress theme can’t be moved directly to Shopify.
Whichever route you choose, make sure to preserve your URLs where possible or set up proper 301 redirects if you migrate, so you don’t lose SEO value.
Once your Shopify store is live, a tool like SearchPie: SEO, Speed & Schema can also help you optimize the store’s technical SEO and structured data while your WordPress site continues to bring in organic traffic.
Since the WordPress site is already earning search traffic, I would protect the working pages first.
The lower-risk setup is to keep WordPress as the content and guide hub, then add Shopify as the shop area. Make the handoff feel deliberate: same logo/header style, one clear Shop nav item, product collections that match the guide topics already getting traffic, and links from relevant guide pages into the right product or collection pages.
If you later move everything into Shopify, start with a URL map before touching the design. List the pages that bring traffic, keep those slugs where possible, create 301 redirects for every changed URL, and mark the launch date in Search Console/GA4 so you can see whether any drop comes from rankings, store usability, or the new product path.
You can recreate the homepage visually, but I would judge success by whether returning visitors still recognize the site and new shoppers can get from a guide to a product without confusion.
I’d keep the WordPress site as the content/SEO hub for now and add Shopify as the shop layer. Rebuilding the whole thing in Shopify just to match an existing homepage is a lot of risk unless there’s a bigger reason to migrate.
If you do move later, make a URL map first: keep any ranking guide URLs the same where possible, 301 anything that changes, and watch Search Console for crawl/indexing issues after launch. The design can be recreated in Shopify, but the SEO migration is the part I’d be more careful with.
If ecommerce will be a small part of your revenue, then stick to Wordpress. Test with a subdomain and decide later. Not worth the hassle to migrate.
On the other hand, though you can do a lot with Wordpress, it is primarily a blogging platform. I don’t see any blogs on your site. So by switching to Shopify, you won’t have to manage two platforms. Makes it simpler to be on one platform for authentication, reporting, payments, design changes, etc. SEO for key pages should transfer cos the backlinks and domain authority will transfer when you move to Shopify.
You’ve invested a lot into your homepage so I see the hesitation. However, most of it is text and standard blocks. Especially now, with Shopify integrated with Claude, you can have it replicate the design to be close.
