It’s great to hear you are looking at purchasing a custom domain. This will allow your business to appear more professional, which will then strengthen trust with prospective customers!
In short, you can’t change your domain name once it’s registered. Domains purchased through Shopify are registered for one year, and can be renewed annually. After you buy a domain, you can’t change the URL that you chose during your purchase so it’s important to double-check the spelling as domain purchases are non-refundable.
Before you buy a custom domain through Shopify, I suggest checking the price and availability of your domain name by using Shopify’s domain name generator.
Once you’re able to successfully set up your custom domain, it’s also a good idea to set up a custom domain email address. This will allow your business to appear more professional, which will then strengthen trust with prospective customers. While Shopify doesn’t currently offer email hosting natively on our platform, if you’re just starting out, a popular choice to help with setting up your custom email address is Zoho Mail. Otherwise, Google Workspace is also a commonly used provider for hosting your custom email.

Yes, you can! This will mean that the domain will not be available for you to use anymore and you will need to redirect your customers to your website through a different domain. Is there any reason why you are wanting to possibly cancel your domain subscription?
