I paid annually, $312, on Oct. 26, 2021 therefore my next billing date is Oct. 26, 2022.
Is it possible to pause my Shopify store on Dec 26, 2021, and when I unpause it I’ll still have 10 months of credit leftover? Or does it not work like that? If not can someone explain how this works? Thanks,
I can confirm for you that if you choose to go on a Full Pause plan, the remainder of your subscription fees for the rest of the year will be credited to your account and used towards future subscription payments.
You will find that when you go to reactivate your store, the options presented will be monthly plans - you can choose to go on the monthly plans, and every billing cycle they will be paid for using the credit on your account, however if you wish for the plan to be made annual again, you might notice that an amount will be deducted from your chosen billing method because it would be like starting an annual plan from the beginning.
In the above case, the amount that would be deducted will be whatever you have used up from October 26th - December 26th, and the rest will be the credit for the other months.
If you’re happy to go ahead and pause your store, I recommend you first take a look at our guide on it in our help centre here as it gives some tips and advice on what you should do in preparation. An example is that you will need to set up a password page so that customers cannot access your store - this will avoid confusion when they experience errors and issues as the checkout is disabled on the pause plan.
Thanks for the response. Another question related to the same topic regarding my annual prepaid plan:
If I decide to completely cancel on December 26th, will I get credited back the amount that is the remainder of my one-year annual plan? The remainder would be 10 months leftover (or unused). Or will I just lose out on all the money I paid for the 1-year annual plan that ends on October 26, 2022?
If you choose to pause the store on that date, then you will indeed have 10 months worth of credit on your account.
When it comes to reactivating and going back to an annual plan, you will notice that you are being asked to pay the full amount.
Once you confirm and go ahead, you will be charged at that moment for 2 months worth (since this is what you have now spent from October 26th - December 26th) and you will be on a fresh billing cycle.
Because of this, you should also note that next year you will not be charged at the end of October for another year ahead, it will instead be the end of December.
