I am in Canada. My shop is in CAD. Half of my orders are from the US. I have both Canadian and US bank accounts. I have Stripe accounts and when I was previously with Big Cartel, purchases in USD were sent to my US Bank and purchases in CAD were sent to my Canadian account.
It is so frustrating that with Shopify, I am forced to exchange the funds from US sales into CAD (unless I am on the Advanced plan).
I could use Stripe instead of Shopify Payments but then it seems I am unable to sell in both USD and CAD. Is this definitely correct?
Honestly, this feels like an unnecessary restriction that is a backhanded way for Shopify to capture more of my sales. I mean, if little old Big Cartel can do it… or am I missing something?
That is a great question! Looking into this, you can sell in multiple currencies using the Shopify Payments gateway. However, you can only connect one payout banking account to the gateway to receive your payouts. I can certainly see the benefit of allowing you to connect multiple bank accounts to the gateway to allow you to direct which bank account the payouts to go depending on the currency used. I am going to mention this to our developers as a suggestion to include.
Since each payment gateway has separate policies in place, I believe it would be best to reach out to Stripe’s support with this inquiry to see if this is possible. They would be in the best position to provide you with further assistance if you would like to use the Stripe payment gateway.
And you need to rent hosting at a reasonable price. There is no additional Shopify commission or hidden fee, just Stripe automatically deducts the Stripe fee from the payments you receive.
