Hi, I am 16 Years old and I live in Germany. I have started a small brand and been wanting to sell on Shopify for a couple months now. After months of paperwork, I finally have the business registered in my name, complete with tax number and all. My problem is that when I want to set up Shopify payments, I am asked for the account representative (which must apparently be the business owner). I own the business but I want my parents to own the Shopify account. Will this be a Problem or can my parents just register as account representatives without legally owning the business?
technically if those over 18 are the merchants and paying for the account that’s not the problem.
But if you start connecting everything together and there’s someone that violates some part of some TOS somewhere you gonna get deplatformed.
Don’t muck about, have a business structure with those of legal age leading it in whatever way works in your region; READ: talk to a business lawyer for what to do, not to random people on the internet.
Shopify Payments needs the account rep to be the legal owner. If your parents register instead, it could cause problems later, like your account getting frozen. Either wait until you’re old enough or make a legal arrangement where a parent is listed officially until then. Keeping it legit now saves a lot of stress later. You’re doing great just keep things clean on the legal side
