I was attempting to create a store and got this error. Please see screenshot below:

Can I request this store to be deleted so I can have this store name?
Unfortunately, once the store name is registered it cannot be transferred over (even if the store is inactive).

Thanks for your question. As @Nick_Marketing once this store name has been registered, there is no way of removing that name even if the store is no longer active.
The myshopify.com domain is created automatically when you first create your Shopify store. This is a unique account identifier for both us and you. The store’s admin is always connected to this domain, but you can purchase a custom domain with your preferred name for customer facing purposes. You have the option of purchasing a domain via Shopify or via a third party provider if you wish. If the domain name is already in use, then you will be unable to purchase it.
