Thanks for the quick response and providing that context.
It is possible to require an email address and phone number by navigating to Settings > Checkout and changing the Customer contact method to require email only. After that is done, you can change the required customer information to include a shipping address phone number.
This will allow you to update the buyer in this scenario over email and provide shipping updates to the receiver.
With that being said, I can certainly see the benefit of customizing the checkout to include another customer contact phone number and email. I am going to provide this thread to the developers as a suggestion to include. We appreciate you reaching out and sharing this feedback with us.
