Thanks for sharing your question with our network.
You can absolutely use your subdomain for your Shopify store, whilst using your root domain for a different site. The difference is a subdomain will look like “example.x.com” as opposed to “x.com/1” and it will connect similar to how you connected your root domain.
There are a few key differences, however, and for that I’d like to share with you this set-up manual you can use as a guide to connecting your subdomain.

can I have a my existing website run on woocommerce and use woo’s shopping cart, and have a subdomain running on shopify and use shopify’s shopping cart? will that create any conflict in google search engines or any other problems in general? thoughts!!

Google treats subdomains like any other website, therefore, I don’t foresee any SEO issues arising from this set up. Some online SEO companies do argue that subdomains rank lower in regards to SEO efficiency, though, if managed well it should not be an issue.
With that being said, I do invite our other community users and SEO specialists to share their feedback and any particular advice they have for these situations.
